Graco Jungle Adventure

Does anyone know what the car seat regulations are for preemies?

My daughter may be coming home next week from the hospital and I need to know what the safety car seat regulations are for preemies. I currently have a Graco Snugride in Jungle Adventure.

She is currently 4 lb 12 oz and 15.5 inches tall, but will be 5 lb by next week.

The legal regulations are the same. However, every hospital will do a car seat test, and premies sometimes will not pass their test in seats made for bigger babies. The Graco Snugride is actually not one of the seats I'd recommend for a preemie. The bottom slots aren't low enough at 8".

There's a seat made by Safety1st called Onboard that is perfect for preemies, with 5" bottom slots, and a 4lbs minimum weight. It also has a built-in lockoff on the base amking installation a snap and the handle can be left in the up position even in the car. (Not all seats allow this). Its been available for a while as a travel system, but recently you can now buy just the seat. Also sold as the Eddie Bauer SureFit. I hesitate to recommend an Evenflo seat b/c of all their frequent recalls and bad recall fixes, but the Evenflo Embrace does have 5" bottom slots. The Safety1st/Eddie Bauer seat would be better, though, it has EPS foam (absorbs impact so baby doesn't)

If baby consistently doesn't pass the car seat stress test, you will need a car bed, which the hospital can show you where to get one. The Graco SafeSeat would be the next lowest, at 7".

Compass makes a great infant seat for preemies, also check out the Chicco Keyfit22 and Keyfit30
